Senate Votes Down Bad Amendments on Legal Reform Bill
March 29, 2006

Today was an important day, not only for AIF members, but for the entire business community.

A bill (HB 145) that would eliminate joint & several liability, the top priority for all business groups, was attacked with a very bad amendment (commonly called the Fabre fix) that would have weakened the very good bill that was already passed overwhelmingly by the Florida House on a vote of 93-27. After much spirited debate on the amendment, the full Senate voted down the amendment on a vote of 18-22.

Two other bad amendments were also discussed and voted down, which leaves this very good bill intact and ready for a final vote on the Senate floor tomorrow.

I would like to strongly encourage all members to take a quick moment and send an email to Senate President Tom Lee, and thank him for his leadership on this issue. Here is his email addresslee.tom.web@flsenate.gov.
