SPEAKER FEENEY REACTS TO THE SUPREME COURT RULING
SOURCE: Representative Tom Feeney,
Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives

April 18, 2001

“I am pleased by the decision of the Supreme Court to recognize the inappropriate circuit court’s temporary restraining order that would have interfered with the legislature’s constitutional duties to serve the citizens of Florida”.

“The majority opinion is well written and describes the important coequal and independent nature of each of our three branches under a republican form of government”.

“As the court held in its opinion on page 9 of the ruling, In the present case, the circuit court did what it had no authority to do:  It issued an order contravening the internal workings of the Legislature’.”
