Statement by Associated Industries Chief Executive Barney Bishop
Regarding State’s Gaming Compact with Seminole Tribe

November 15, 2007

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. —“Governor Charlie Crist is to be commended for his signing today of a historic gaming compact with the Seminole Tribe of Florida.  This agreement has the potential to bring millions of much needed dollars to the state’s coffers.  In a time of fiscal uncertainty, this type of policy decision is welcomed not only for its impact on state revenues, but also for its potential to bring increased economic activity to our state.

“Associated Industries of Florida recognizes the Governor’s leadership in developing a compact that will benefit both the Seminole Tribe and the people of Florida.  AIF supported legislation last session that would have allowed for Video Lottery Terminals at our state’s pari-mutuel facilities for many of the same fiscally sound reasons.”
