Joint Special Session Proclamation

January 9, 2007

Senate President Ken Pruitt and House Speaker Marco Rubio today released a joint proclamation announcing a seven day Insurance Special Session, to begin at 1:00pm Tuesday, January 16, 2007 and lasting until 11:59pm Monday, January 22, 2007. The purview of the call to Special Session includes reducing current property insurance premiums, future rate of growth in property insurance premiums, improving the availability and stability of property insurance, and the state's building codes. Below is the joint proclamation.



THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE JOINT PROCLAMATION

TO THE HONORABLE MEMBERS OF THE FLORIDA SENATE AND THE FLORIDA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES:

We, Ken Pruitt, President of the Florida Senate, and Marco Rubio, Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, by virtue of the authority vested in us by Article III, Section 3(c), Florida Constitution, and Section 11.011, Florida Statutes, do hereby proclaim:

1. That the Legislature of the State of Florida is convened in Special Session pursuant to Article III, Section 3(c), Florida Constitution, and Section 11.011, Florida Statutes, at the Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida, at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, the 16th day of January 2007, for a period of seven days ending at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, the 22nd day of January 2007.

2. That the Legislature is convened for the sole and exclusive purpose of considering the following:
A. Legislation to reduce current property insurance premiums in this state.
B. Legislation to reduce the future rate of growth in property insurance premiums in this state.
C. Legislation to improve the availability and stability of property insurance in this state.
D. Legislation relating to building codes in the State of Florida.
