SPEAKER FEENEY COMMENTS ON THE CONCLUSION OF THE FIRST WEEK OF SESSION

March 8, 2001
Source: Representative Tom Feeney,  Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives

“Today, the Florida House of Representatives concluded our first week of the 2001 Legislative Session. I am extremely proud of the public policy that passed out of the House Chamber, and all of our members that rose above partisan squabble to conduct civil debate and serve our state and institution with honor and integrity. Our freshmen were particularly impressive in debate and asserting early leadership shepherding complex legislation through the process.

The elected legislature most closely represents the philosophies of the individuals whom we were elected to serve. This week, the Florida House delivered on some of it’s earliest promises to the constituents, reflecting their principles of parental empowerment in education, returning tax dollars to the taxpayers, and demanding that third party political committees take responsibility for their part in the process.

I would like to extend my congratulations to all one hundred twenty members for serving Florida to the best of our ability”.
