Update on Recounts

HD 9    Peter Boulware (R) v. Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda (D)

Leon County officials are still counting votes in this race.  Currently, Vasilinda leads Boulware with 440 votes (or 48.6%) in the race to succeed Rep. Loranne Ausley (D- Tallahassee), who could not seek re-election due to term limits.  That lead is slightly over the threshold required for an automatic recount.  Boulware would need to pick up at least 158 of the 300 district votes for this race to be called for an automatic recount as reported by the Tallahassee Democrat.  According to Florida law, the difference in votes must be less than one-half of a percent to require a recount.  

HD 11 Rep. Debbie Boyd (D) v. Elizabeth Porter (R)

This race seems to be headed for an automatic recount, because Rep. Boyd leads Porter by only 164 votes or 50.1% of the vote.  As of election night Boyd led by only 42 votes and after picking up votes during the counting of provisional ballots, it still may not be enough to avoid a recount in this race.

Amendment 3- Changes and Improvements Not Affecting the Assessed Value of Residential Real Property
Provisional ballots are still being tabulated regarding Amendment 3 and it currently has been approved with 60.52% of the vote.  This is only two one-hundredths of a percent above the amount needed for an automatic recount.  On election night it was being reported as only 60.4% approval, which if it had stayed at that percentage it would have been ordered for a recount.

The state elections canvassing commission is expected to meet tomorrow at 6 pm to order machine recounts, if required in any or all of the three races.
